Meet Aliya Hasan, Social Media Anti-Israel Activist Who Praises Palestinian Terrorism
Among the cacophony of anti-Israel groups is Canadian Defenders for Human Rights (CD4HR), an organization headed by Firas al-Najim, who has been the subject of multiple HonestReporting Canada alerts due to his vile anti-Israel & antisemitic content, and as a result of those efforts, has been de-platformed from his various social media channels.
Despite CD4HR’s supposed mandate “to combat oppression and support the oppressed,” it is a group of misfits who harassed shoppers at an Israeli store on Canada Day and verbally accosted Holocaust survivors at a fundraising event. In 2022, al Najim was arrested by York Regional Police for nearly ramming his car “at a high rate of speed” into a group of demonstrators protesting the Islamic Republic of Iran. Inside his car, police found bear spray, an airsoft gun, and a baton.
Enter Aliya Hasan, co-founder of CD4HR, who is no less vehement in her propagation of hateful anti-Israel content on social media. Hasan was the subject of an HonestReporting Canada exposé in January 2023, which brought the public attention to her social media presence, including overtly praising Khayri Alqam, a Palestinian terrorist who murdered seven innocent Israelis.
On her Instagram account which has 67,500 followers, Hasan described Alqam as a “martyred hero” who was killed “after carrying out the resistance operation that killed 8+ ‘Israeli’ colonizers today.”
In his attack, Alqam shot at worshippers after they left a synagogue in an Israeli town, and victims included a 14-year-old child.
On October 8, 2023, only one day after Hamas’ genocidal mass killings across southern Israel, Hasan took to Instagram to celebrate, writing that “an unprecedented series of events has taken place by our heroic resistance in #Gaza,” adding that “we remain steadfast in our right to resist by any means necessary.”
She then invited her followers on social media to an event meant to “uplift and honour our resistance and our martyrs” in order to “celebrate our steps closer to liberation.”
While Hasan praised Hamas’ mass murder of innocent Israeli civilians, in a post one month later, she contradicted herself by strongly inferring that October 7 was a mass conspiracy and cover-up. In the post, she wrote that “The “#israeli” military released footage showing hundreds of scorched and damaged cars allegedly moved from the Nova music festival, which it claims that Hamas attacked. Anyone else wondering where all the footage of the events of Oct. 7 is? How come all we’ve seen is a bunch of concert-goers running away from invisible boogeymen?”
Hasan’s October 8 post was not the first time she glorified Palestinian terrorism. On August 18, 2021, she posted a video montage featuring masked and armed Palestinian terrorists, along with the caption “Resistance is justified when people are occupied! RESIST WARRIORS, RESIST! Long live the RESISTANCE!”
Throughout her Instagram posts, Hasan referred to Hamas as “resistance,” and frequently repeats the phrase “Resistance until Liberation,” alongside images of Hamas terrorists.
Aliya Hasan’s comments and posts on social media go far beyond what constitutes political disagreement, and well into overt glorification of Palestinian terrorism and murder. As such, Instagram (and its owner, Meta) must immediately remove her from its platform.
