TikTok food critic Keith Lee has come to Florida. Here’s what restaurants he’s tried so far

Florida is finally getting “Keith Lee-d.”

Miami is the next stop on the TikTok food critic’s unofficial food tour, giving Lee a warm welcome — literally.

“Miami, Florida … here we come,” Lee said in his official announcement video to fans, asking them for recommendations for family-owned businesses to try out.

Viewers voiced their excitement for the beloved food personality’s trip to the Sunshine State, one writing “Finally FL getting Keith Lee!” Many also responded to his request for recommendations, flooding the comments with their favorite local hot spots.

Who is TikTok’s Keith Lee?

Keith Lee is a 27-year-old popular food critic on TikTok with over 16 million followers. The former MMA fighter first started making TikTok videos in 2020, seeing attention a year later while documenting his quests to fulfill his wife’s hyper-specific pregnancy cravings.

According to Slate Magazine, Lee had 1 million followers on TikTok at the time of the pregnancy craving videos but he gained more than 7 million followers in three months after he pivoted to reviewing Las Vegas restaurants.

Lee has gained popularity for his direct and down-to-earth style of reviewing food, his review often helping struggling small businesses thrive.

Keith Lee takes on Florida. Where is he and what restaurants has he gone to so far?

As of May 29, Lee has reviewed three spots so far.

Before starting the tour, he went to Hollywood to review his brother’s restaurant, ‘Braised by Kevin Lee.’ Kevin Lee is also a well-known professional mixed martial artist.

“Me and my family are in Hollywood, Florida and the food in this bag is from my brother’s restaurant. When I say my brother, I mean the same mom and dad. But I didn’t order it and he doesn’t know we’re here,” Keith said.

He explained how they asked someone else to order for him so his brother and his staff wouldn’t know he was there. He reviewed three food items, highlighting the oxtail and giving it a 9.

He went on to Coops Pit BBQ in Miami, detailing how he stumbled upon the food cart on Memorial Day and how the owner had no idea who he was.

“That is downright delicious. That is gas,” Lee said when reviewing the ribs, giving them an 8.7. He went back to give the owner a $3,000 tip after reviewing his meal, which he gave high marks throughout.

When looking for a “popular” recommendation, he did a poll on his Instagram story and his followers requested he try out Miami’s House Of Mac. However, this one didn’t go as well as the previous two reviews.

Immediately when trying out the truffle fries, he said they were “not for me” and tasted like they came from the freezer.

As for mac and cheese, he said it was too salty and noted the crust kept coming off when he would take his first bite. When he tried the ones with meat mixed in, he said the added flavors did not compliment each other.

Fans joked about the lackluster rating, saying “House of Mac GET READY…. for nothing, this was not a good rating.”

Since started his food tours last year, he has visited over a dozen cities in North America, from the controversial Atlanta visit to Las Vegas, where his videos all started.

This year, he has already visited a handful of cities — his hometown of Detroit, Indianapolis and a return to Atlanta for redemption.

How does Keith Lee find restaurants to review? How does he rate them?

According to Lee, restaurants reach out through email or social media messages, asking to be “Keith Lee-d.” On rare occasions, he will completely stumble on a new business and will give it a try.

Unlike some food influencers who get paid for their reviews and opinions, Lee stresses that he pays for his own meals. To make sure the review is unbiased, he places delivery orders without using his real name while sending family members or friends into the establishment to pick up his orders so he’s not recognized and given special treatment.

“I am not a celebrity,” Lee said in a video. “I am a regular person, just like anyone else. When I enter a restaurant, I want the same treatment the employees will give to someone they say is a regular person.”

Once he has the food, he rates every item on a 10-point scale and usually describes his experience ordering the food.
