TikTok user says she was fooled by ‘work happy hour’ that was actually a hiring test
Marissa Marlowe, a TikTok user, shared a recent video about her job search journey. She applied to numerous jobs before finally getting an on-site test with a potential employer. She spent the day presenting for 75 minutes and chatting with company staff. Afterwards, Business Insider reported that she was invited to a ‘work happy hour’ to meet the team.
Marlowe discovered that the happy hour was packed with other candidates, likening the experience to “The Bachelor” where multiple contenders vie for one spot. Despite going through the hiring process and attending the happy hour, Marlowe humorously shared that she didn’t get the job in the end.
Business Insider also shared the news on their official Instagram account @insiderbusiness. The accompanying caption read, “Job seekers are no strangers to jumping through hoops for their prospective employers. But some employers seem to be taking hiring tests to new levels.”
The post gained over 5,000 likes and comments. Reacting to the post, one user said, “Naaah these are the type of companies that call you family and end up firing you without notice cause of lay offs.” Another wrote, “I had a similar “interview” where all the candidates were invited to the firms annual conference and expected to network with the employees.” A third user shared, “THIS HAPPENED TO ME TOOO.”
