JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Social media platform TikTok‘s impact in Mississippi is among the highest nationally.
According to casino.ca, more than one-third of Americans use the app. But according to a survey of 3,000 TikTok users, Mississippi’s reliance on the app surpasses national averages.
Americans spend an average of one hour and 19 minutes on TikTok and open the app six times daily. Mississippi’s TikTok users spend an average of three hours and eight minutes on the app and access it about nine times daily. It is the longest usage time for the app in any state.
About 71% of Americans credit TikTok videos for sparking their interest in mindfulness and productivity. TikTok inspires 98% of the app’s users in Mississippi to pursue these goals, the highest rate nationally. Additionally, #BookTok inspired 40% of Americans to read more. In Mississippi, 84% credit the app for becoming bookworms, the highest percentage rate in the nation.
TikTok inspired 31% of Americans to enroll in a course and learn a subject. TikTok inspired 75% of Mississippi’s residents to do the same, the 2nd highest rate in the country. More than half (51%) of Americans use TikTok as their primary platform for learning. That number is 75% in Mississippi, the second-highest rate in the United States.
Despite the app’s influence on the state and country, TikTok faces a potential ban nationwide in 2025. The Protecting Americans From Foreign Adversaries Act requires the company to sell TikTok to a new company allowed to operate in the U.S. Otherwise, the app will be banned from American networks and online app stores. The company filed a lawsuit in May arguing that the law violates the First Amendment.
