The ‘ugly’ sandals shoppers are snapping up before going on holidays

Teva sandals, known for their minimalistic, utilitarian style, have become an unexpected hit with tourists heading overseas in the coming months.

They feature quick-drying straps, a cushioned sole and velcro straps for adjustability.

And while some might scoff at the idea of these ‘ugly’ shoes, others have been praising them on TikTok for their comfort and practicality.

The ‘it’ shoe for Euro summer

Alivia, a 27-year-old Aussie, saw the hype online and headed to Kathmandu to try them for herself.

“Everyone is going crazy for these shoes for Euro summer. I am going to go try them on and see if they’re worth the hype,” she said in the clip titled “Trying on the viral Euro summer shoes.”

After browsing the shoe section filled with Scandi-inspired sandals, Alivia picked out a pair of black ones, calling them “a staple.”

But once she tried them on, she began questioning… everything.

“Why am I trying these on?” she said, laughing.

However, once she took a walk around the store, she soon declared them a “ten out of ten.”

“I’ve never felt anything so comfy and I kind of thought they were cute at the end,” Alivia said.

“Worth every cent”

Commenters were divided, with some sharing equally as rave reviews while others admitted it wasn’t their cup of tea.

“I took the Tevas to Europe last summer and they saved me when swimming at the rocky beaches,” one jetsetter said.

“My friends laughed at me for taking these to Europe last year but a week in they had blisters all over her feet and I have the most comfortable shoes ever. Wore them in the hostel showers, 20k walks etc,” a third wrote.

Another said, “We loveeeeee Tevas,” while someone else promised: “They are worth every cent girlies!”

Tevas are currently on sale at Kathmandu for $104.99, down from $149.99.

But one confused viewer asked: “Who the hell are going crazy over these? 😂😂😂”

“My millennial soul can’t! 🚫” shared someone else.

“No deal,” someone else simply stated.

“Wow, these make Crocs look nice? Seriously the world’s gone mad, 😂” expressed one.

And one viewer said her “baby boomer dad wears sandals that look like those.”

Meanwhile, others shared their own recommendations for those not keen on the Tevas.

“Cotton On has them on sale for $5,” shared one,” referencing these Strap Sandals.

“You would probably be DELIGHTED with Croc sandals too. They don’t look like Crocs but are so so comfy,” said a second.

“Birkenstocks do the trick,” another concluded.

“Just go to ECCO,” someone else insisted.
